James (Jim) Broughton

Jim Broughton was an avid cyclist who included bicycling each day that he could, not only for recreation, but also for commuting to work, errands, etc.  He logged well over 110,000 miles in the period from 1982-December 31, 2017.  He toured with friends and participated in many organized rides throughout the northeast and southeast.  A member of Rails-to-Trails, Jim was passionate about the development and expansion of new rail trails and he rode on many rail trails locally as well as those in other states.

Jim grew up in Acton and rode on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail several times.  He ardently followed the progress of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail development.  For many years he was a member of and active with the Charles River Wheelers and served on its Board of Directors.

Always active and athletic, Jim recently enjoyed Disc Golf in addition to cycling.

We lost Jim to cancer on April 4, 2018.
